2013 Ford Escape appeal growing

Perhaps it’s the bright lights of the Los Angeles convention center, or maybe it’s just the skilled work of photographer Drew Phillips, but whatever the reason, the 2013 Ford Escape simply looks better here at the LA Auto Show. Our initial impressions of the more traditional CUV shape weren’t totally positive, but after staring at the red show car on display here in SoCal, we’re growing fonder of Ford’s new compact crossover, even if it does just look like a super-sized Focus. Those chrome wheels, however, simply must go.

Regardless of how you feel about its design, what’s underneath the new skin is most important. A trio of four-cylinder engines are on tap: a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter, turbocharged 1.6-liter and turbocharged 2.0-liter – the latter of which can manage up to 3,500 pounds of towing capacity. There’s also a host of safety and technology onboard, including the revamped MyFord Touch infotainment system, a hands-free liftgate and enough safety features to keep even the biggest worrywart calm.
